About the role
This is a great opportunity for a capable and enthusiastic Electrician to join our busy engineering team at the Port of Leith.
Some of your responsibilities will include –
All maintenance, repair and fault finding of a variety of machinery and equipment within the Port; including forklift trucks, ship to shore cranes, industrial plant, lock date infrastructure and commercial vehicles.
Develop an in depth working knowledge of plant equipment and associated drawings in order to minimise downtime when repairs take place.
Report any damage or misuse to Supervisory staff and liaise with operational staff to inform of timescales for repairs.
Standard working hours are 0700 to 1500 hours, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
What are we looking for?
You must be a time served qualified Electrician and have previous experience of working within a heavily industrialised environment. Some experience of AC/DC control systems, PLC’s and HV/LV would also be advantageous.
You should be willing to work overtime as required, including evening and weekend working and participate in the on-call rota. You must also be comfortable working at height and outdoors in all weathers.
A full driving licence, valid in the UK, is essential.

- Relevant Health and Safety training
- Demonstrated experience in heavy engineering environment
- Experience of maintenance and repair of DC motor control equipment, AC motor starting equipment, 12/24 v DC control systems, automotive repairs, PLC controls, HV and LV network experience, LV cable joining
- Driving licence essential
