About the role

If you are looking for early responsibility and full immersion into our business then this is a role that you will love.  This will join a a relatively small, established team which means that you will work closely and collaboratively across many aspects of our business including Operations, Business Development, Finance, Health & Safety and Human Resources teams. This role will suit someone looking for a hands-on opportunity where relationship building is key and if you are interested in a non-corporate graduate opportunity, this could be the role for you.

Key responsibilities are:

  • Assist in the maintenance of GIS database with accuracy and data integrity.

  • Update hydrographic and topographic surveys in the GIS systems.

  • Assist in the production of nautical charts and bespoke maps for various projects with high standards of cartography.

  • Publish charts to wider group in a timely manner.

  • Collaborate with other team members to analyse data and provide meaningful information to support decisions.

  • Conduct research to identify publicly available spatial dataset for internal use.

  • Carryout field data collection using GNSS and other tools available.

Although you will be primarily based at the Port of Grangemouth, you will also work at our Ports in Dundee, Rosyth and Leith.

What do I need?

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geomatics, Geography or related field. (Min 2:1 achieved or anticipated)

  • Strong understanding of GIS principles and methodologies (E.g., datum and map projections).

  • Experience with related subjects such as Geodesy, Hydrographic Survey and Land Survey

  • Experience with Python

  • Demonstrable experience in using GIS software, with experience using QGIS is preferable

  • General knowledge of the marine environment

  • Proficiency in use of AutoCAD

  • Experience with Microsoft Office

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team

  • Good organisational skills and manage multiple tasks and priorities

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Full UK driving licence

  • The successful candidate must by the start of their employment have permission to work in the UK

  • Passionate about embarking on a career within GIS
