Job Purpose

To take responsibility for creating, developing, and executing sales, business development and marketing strategic plans to reach organisation goals in respect of sales, with the aim of developing and expanding the customer base and delivering profitable business.

Scope

The Sales Director is responsible for all sales related activities at Wernick Buildings including championing Customer Excellence.  The Sales Director is tasked with ensuring profitable business is secured in line with the overall organisational strategy, with the effective development of the sales team alongside indirect management and support from the marketing team. 

Ultimate responsibility is to facilitate work winning activity, by securing orders for the provision of company’s products and services which Wernick are able to deliver successfully.

The role will also include responsibility for leading and working with others to re-align processes and procedures to improve productivity and effectiveness across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creating, developing, and executing strategic plans to reach sales targets and expand the customer base in line with business objectives to provide a pipeline of opportunities and committed orders.

  • Drive customer excellence across the business.

  • Provide direction to the sales team in line with business strategy, lead, motivate and measure performance of the sales team to ensure individual and divisional objectives are achieved.

  • Maintaining and developing an effective sales team by recruiting and training employees effectively.

  • Take a hands-on approach, for coaching and mentoring the sales team, to improve performance whilst delivering excellent service to both internal and external customers.

  • Enable the team to deliver value as ‘trusted advisors’ help customers through their journey.

  • Ensure effective sales monitoring is in place for all sales activity and ensure the business is capturing critical data in relation to conversion targets and market opportunities.

  • Create a mechanism to allow for better forecasting of sales and likely order dates.

  • Develop and implement standard sales operating practices and monitoring techniques in conjunction with direct reports.

  • Accompany the Regional Sales Managers and other personnel on customer visits as and when required.

  • Lead by example by managing and successfully achieving personal targets for securing business across agreed sectors and geography.

  • Work with the Commercial Director to ensure all tenders, proposals and agreements are completed on time, meet the clients brief and are commercially competitive.

  • To work closely with Marketing to design and implement the organisations sales strategy. Ensure the execution of the marketing plan is achieved during the course of the year.

  • Working with other areas of the business to develop marketing materials and marketing opportunities.

  • Effectively influence the marketing strategy by understanding the markets and trends within the industry and vertical sectors.

Other tasks

  • Present new business opportunities/ideas to Board of Directors.

  • Support the commercial, operations, and projects teams whilst having a significant impact on people, commercial activity, and profitability.

  • Collaborate with the Marketing, Product, and Leadership team to ensure we capitalize on future market opportunities.

  • To lead, agree and execute with others a change programme to improve performance, create efficiencies and reduce the workloads of departments across the business.

  • To work alongside fellow directors to promote an environment of effective teamwork and communication across business functions.

  • Explore the opportunities across group to maximise existing relationships with customers.

  • Enhance the sales team technical product knowledge.

  • Review current sales process and implement the improvement of process in conjunction with the Commercial & Technical Director

  • Create a Sales toolbox; a suite of resources to aid the sales team in the course of their work.

  • Participate at industry events, trade show and other networking events.  Be a strong ambassador of Wernick.

Human Resources:

To work closely with HR in the event of HR issues arising for sales employees.

Sales & Marketing Plan:

To develop & execute Sales & Marketing plans in line with company objectives with the support of the Commercial & Marketing Teams.

To improve effectiveness and productivity of marketing and sales activities.

To establish reporting to allow for effective forecasting and monitoring of performance.

Bid Management:

To support the bid team throughout the sales cycle.  To actively promote and manage the bid process, by way of the commercial lead taking responsibility for tender Launch, mid tender review, and submission review for agreed sizes of projects.

Sales Team:

Estimating Team:

To provide higher quality of information for the estimating team to work with.

Working closer with the estimating team to ensure all the relevant information is in our ownership.  The Sales Manager to be a proactive facilitator between client and internal departments.

Designers:

To ensure that the Sales team provide designers with critical information to produce sales drawings in a timely and efficient manner.

Quantity Surveyor:

To work with the Quantity Surveyor(s) on large projects to allow prompt movement through the sales process.

Quality:

To work with Directors across the organisation to evaluate current process and procedures and develop a plan of works for improving productivity and effectiveness for company-wide benefit.

Misc:  As a director you are required to manage under your portfolio other business projects/tasks that  may arise.
