About you:

As a Deputy Manager, you will assist the Registered Manager with the day to day operational running of the home, upholding the highest standards of quality and compliance. The post holder will deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager playing a pivotal role in ensuring that a high level of person centred, clinical care and governance is provided to the residents meeting all statutory and regulatory requirements. You will also be involved in sharing a portion of the Business Support responsibilities, which will be outlined and agreed upon with the Manager, Head of Region, and Business Support team at the Care Home once you are successfully in post. The post holder will act as an excellent role model providing consistent leadership, sound clinical knowledge and management to the clinical and care teams. They will have a clear focus on others, demonstrating the ability to develop effective relationships with residents, families, staff and other key stakeholders.

About the role

Responsibilities include*

  • Plan, organise, direct and coordinate the day to day operations of the home

  • Comply with all relevant legislation and regulations. E.g. Care Inspectorate Wales (Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016/National Minimum Standards; Social Care Wales; Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 etc

  • Administer company policies and procedures to ensure effective and efficient operation of the Unit

  • Provide direction and leadership to personnel including, communication and interpretation of policy, procedure.

  • Ensure the proper maintenance of all resident and other records in accordance with policy and relevant legislation

  • Work with the Registered Manager and Health and Safety Officer to develop and implement an approved emergency/contingency plan

  • Ensure the home, resident and staff activities are maintained and conducted in accordance with fire and safety standards

  • Ensure supplies and equipment are kept at appropriate levels and in good order, are utilised effectively and, as appropriate, in accordance with company policy and other regulations

  • Work with the Registered Manager to improve the delivery of care, innovation, improving the residents experience; staff retention etc

  • Maintain an effective incident and accident system and to ensure these are reported directly to the Registered Manager

  • To work with the Registered Manager to ensure all appropriate steps are taken to ensure optimum occupancy is maintained at all times

  • Responsibility for managing change and development of the home with the support and agreement of key management staff.

  • i.e. Registered Manager; Regional Manager; Responsible Individual etc

  • Submit reports regularly, or as required to the Registered Manager and/or Senior Management

  • Present a professional and caring first contact for all those who visit or telephone the Home

  • Support the finance department in the financial administration that supports the business of operating a Care Home

  • To ensure that marketing materials are kept up to date in order to give correct information to those who enquire about the Home.

  • i.e. Care Home information packs

  • Play a key role in the safeguarding of all company, public and personal monies

  • Provide summary of invoices issued and payments received to Head Office

  • To play a key role in ensuring staffing levels are maintained by having taking the lead / assisting with the Home's rota/off duty

  • To be involved in Human Resources activities relating to the recruitment, professional development, minor investigations and the retention of staff ensuring best practice, consistency and compliance in management of personnel.

  • Responsible for assessing competence of staff, supervision, maintenance and administration of medicines in line with relevant guidelines, ensuring compliance with Care Inspectorate Wales' standards

  • To be aware of and comply with the Social Care Wales Code of Professional Practice and ensure all staff comply with the Code

  • Ensure eligibility to practice by maintaining registration with the NMC (if applicable) and / or SCW.

  • Ensuring all staff maintain registration with SCW

  • Undertaking additional and ad-hoc duties

Essential Requirements:

  • Leadership / management experience within a nursing / care environment

  • High level of professional development and registration (QCF Health & Social Care Level $3/4$ qualification or commitment to work towards)

  • Ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of the needs of the older person and the role of the Deputy Manager

  • Good understanding of dementia and of the aspirations and needs of people affected by it

  • Effective verbal, written, literacy and numeracy skills

  • Excellent time management and organisational skills

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite applications

  • Proven record and passion for providing elderly, person centred care and positive outcomes

  • Positive, flexible attitude and a desire to make a difference

  • An understanding of and adherence to Caron Group's ethos
