The role:

Reporting to the Operations & Maintenance Manager, the Governor Technician will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing safe & reliable supply of gas across firmus energy’s networks, through the effective delivery of a programme of inspection and function verification at key sites, coupled with planned maintenance activities.  This role will include participation in our emergency standby rota providing availability on a 24 hour, 7 days a week basis.

About the role

Key Accountabilities:

  • Completion of maintenance activities to enable the continued provision of high service levels and plant availability on all key items of pressure regulating and metering equipment on the firmus energy network

  • Ongoing inspection and function testing in line with Pressure System Safety Regulations (PSSR) requirements

  • Reporting on specific asset condition and identifying the requirement for non-routine maintenance or specific component replacement

  • Undertaking commissioning of new equipment in accordance with all relevant procedures and current legislation

  • Liaising with and guiding property owners and downstream installers to resolve technical or operational issues arising around regulating, metering and downstream gas installations

  • Completing repair and overhaul of existing equipment to ensure asset performance is maintained at optimal levels

  • Management of stores stock to ensure adequate stock levels are held to enable planned and non-routine maintenance as well as emergency situations, this will include spares for all pressure reduction and metering equipment as well as all other equipment associated with large capacity pressure reduction modules

  • Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers and other third parties to resolve technical or operational issues arising around regulating, metering and downstream gas fired equipment

  • Other duties as directed by the Operations & Maintenance Manager

What you will need

Required criteria

  • Experience in commissioning and maintenance of pressure reduction & metering equipment, including Emerson, Honeywell / Elster, Donkin and Itron equipment
  • Knowledge of all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and the ability to translate this into site specific risk assessment and application of suitable control measures
  • Minimum 5 passes at GCSE level Grade C or above (or equivalent) to include English & Mathematics
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to customer service
  • Well organised, with proven time management skills and the ability to prioritise and handle multiple requests simultaneously

  • Experience in assessment and training / development of junior staff
